EPA Varsavia

Dear Presidents & Off. Representatives,

During the last meeting of the Council of NPAs in Brussels, I have announced an important initiative addressed to WHO in order to accept the Internet Gaming Disorder as a new ICD 11 category.

EPA wishes to support this initiate of  the WHO Expert Group with a backing letter addressed to the Director-General of WHO, Mr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, regarding the acceptance of the Internet Gaming Disorder as a new ICD 11 category (which is appended).

Please note that this is supported by EPA President, Silvana Galderisi, the EPA Executive Committee and Prof. Geert Dom, Chair of the EPA Section on Addictive Behaviours.

We are therefore asking all NPAs who wish to support this letter sent back an official support statement as soon as possible but no later than 21 January 2019: “………………Association expresses the support for the inclusion of Gaming Disorder in the Eleventh Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11)”

Additionally if some of you wish to add comments online about this issue – following the example of the German NPA (DGPPN) – you can connect directly on the official platform of WHO for comments on ICD 11 preparations here: https://icd.who.int/. More precise information on how to do this is attached.

Looking forward to your strong support!

With best regards,

Tamas Kurimay

Chair Council of NPAs
